Summer's Coming Strawberry Shake

Today was our first real day when summer seemed like a possibility and, faced with a gorgeous blue sky, and an amazing carton of fragrant strawberries, a sweet treat on the porch seemed indicated, even with the promise of a BBQ dinner tonight.

My secret ingredient may seem weird, but I have always found that Balsamic vinegar enhances the flavors of fresh berries and its addition to this milkshake lifts the drink from flat to perky.

This will make two large shakes, contrary to my usual recipe for one.

1 carton of very ripe strawberries, tailed, large ones halved

3 cups of best quality vanilla ice cream

1/2 cup whole milk

2 tsps Balsamic vinegar

2 tsps sugar (potentially more depending on your sweet tooth)

Place all of the ingredients except the ice cream in a blender and blend until very smooth.

Then, a half cup at a time and blending further each time, start adding the ice cream to the blender. You may not need to use all of the ice cream to reach the thickness of shake that you prefer.
