Cravings are such strange things: never in my life did I think I might have a strong desire to eat stewed prunes. I guess my age is catching up with me?
Anyway, Earl Grey's bergamot flavor seemed like it might be a good addition to prunes so I gave it a shot. This is curiously delicious, both with plain yogurt and a sprinkling of granola, or dolloped onto oatmeal.
8 oz package of pitted, dried prunes
2 teabags of Earl Grey tea
1 1/2 c of water
Zest of 1 orange or 1 Tbsp candied clementine (optional)
Place the prunes and teabags in a bowl.
Bring the water to a rolling boil.
Pour over the prune mixture. Add the zest or candied clementines, if using. Stir to combine and cover.
Set aside until the liquid is room temperature. Remove the teabags, pressing out the flavor as you remove them.
Refrigerate and use as mentioned above.
